ER Mario swaps the Tarnished for Mario. Triple jumps, wall kicks, long jumps and ground pounds all work on Elden Ring’s terrain, punches hurt enemies, and you can grab a staggered boss by the tail and swing it like Bowser.
How it works
The mod loads a small Rust DLL into Elden Ring through the me3 mod loader. Inside it runs libsm64, a library built from the community’s Super Mario 64 decompilation, fed with Elden Ring’s live collision. The Tarnished stays in the game invisibly and follows Mario, so doors, Sites of Grace, menus and saves keep working. That is an engine transplant: one game’s movement engine running inside another.
What changes
Your stats stop mattering. Every punch takes a fixed share of an enemy’s health, Mario always has SM64’s eight-wedge health meter, and stamina and equip load are ignored. It is a different way to play, not a power mod.
What you need
- Elden Ring on Steam.
- Your own Super Mario 64 ROM (US version). Mario’s textures, sounds and animations are generated from it on your PC.
- The me3 mod loader.
Install in short
- Install me3.
- Download the ER-Mario zip from the official GitHub releases and unzip it somewhere writable, such as Documents.
- Put your ROM in the ER-Mario folder and double-click
er-mario.me3. - On first launch the mod sets itself up from the ROM; when it says Setup complete, restart the game the same way. Start a new character, because the mod uses its own save.
Stay offline
me3 launches the game offline with Easy Anti-Cheat off. The creator is explicit: never play this mod online. Streamers need window or display capture for the HUD to show.
Known issues
You can occasionally clip through elevators, cutscenes show a crumpled Mario with the Tarnished’s head, and Mario’s shadow can flicker in some light. The mod is still a work in progress and updates often.
