SkyCraft is the most complete “Minecraft inside another game” project so far. You walk Skyrim’s world with Minecraft’s movement, place and break blocks on its mountains, dig real holes in its roads, and hit its NPCs with Minecraft swords and TNT. They fight back.
How it works
Neither game is rewritten. Minecraft runs hidden in the background with a Fabric mod, Skyrim runs with an SKSE plugin, and the two swap data through shared memory every frame. Skyrim draws everything you see. That makes it a live bridge: two real games running at once and talking to each other.
Highlights
- Minecraft blocks are lit by Skyrim’s sun, shadows, fog and weather; torches and lava light up Skyrim.
- Dig into the ground and you hit dirt, then stone with ores, then bedrock. Creeper explosions leave craters.
- Your Skyrim skills level up from Minecraft play: swords train One-Handed, bows train Archery, crouching trains Sneak.
- Friends who also run SkyCraft can join your Minecraft world. Each player keeps their own Skyrim.
What you need
- Skyrim Special Edition on the Anniversary runtime (1.6.x or 1.7.x). Not 1.5.97, not VR.
- SKSE64 and Address Library for SKSE Plugins.
- A Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition. SkyCraft ships a portable launcher that downloads Minecraft and Java for you.
- About 3 GB of spare RAM and a GPU that can run both games.
Install in short
- Install the SkyCraft zip from the official GitHub releases with Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex, like any SKSE plugin.
- Launch Skyrim through SKSE. On first start, sign in to your Microsoft account in the small launcher window that appears.
- From then on Minecraft starts and stops with Skyrim automatically.
The creator strongly recommends the Alternate Start mod, because Skyrim’s scripted opening can leave you stuck.
Known limits
It is early and experimental: back up your saves. Skyrim’s inventory, magic and perks cannot be opened while Minecraft controls the player, sign text is not drawn yet, and camera mods such as SmoothCam will conflict.
