Skateboarding through Vice City’s neon streets with Skate 3’s physics. The latest release covers both GTA 3 and Vice City and adds the ability to shoot while on the board. San Andreas and skateboard sounds are listed as the next steps.
How it works
It combines two community rewrites (reVC for Vice City and re3 for GTA 3) with the open-source Skate 3 Rust engine. Because the GTA games here run on reconstructed source code, the skate engine can be wired in directly: an engine transplant.
What you need
The project’s README is short. Based on how its building blocks work, you should expect to need your own copies of the GTA games and your own extracted Xbox 360 Skate 3 files. The creator’s latest release ships a setup script, with a bug-fix version of setup.ps1 in a Bugfix folder that you should copy over the original before running.
We have marked setup difficulty as unknown until we can confirm the steps. Prefer the San Andreas version if you want detailed instructions.
A note on legality
re3 and reVC are the same fan rewrites that Take-Two hit with a DMCA takedown in 2021 and then sued over; the case settled in 2023. Projects built on them could be taken down again. Download only from the creator’s own repository.
