Press J (or L3 + R3) and CJ steps onto a skateboard run by the Skate 3 engine, riding San Andreas’ own streets and collision with Skate 3’s camera, controls, tricks, grinds and bails.
How it works
It reuses the Skate 3 engine piece from the MW2 × Skate 3 × Minecraft mashup (itself built on the open-source Skate 3 Rust engine), wrapped in a DLL and loaded into San Andreas with a C++ ASI plugin. An engine transplant: Skate 3’s physics running inside a game from 2004.
What you need
- The classic PC GTA San Andreas, downgraded to version 1.0 US with an ASI Loader. The Definitive Edition will not work.
- Your own Xbox 360 Skate 3, extracted to a folder with
default.xexanddata. - A controller: Xbox, or PlayStation through DS4Windows.
Install in short
- Run GTA SA Open Downgrader in your game folder and tick ASI Loader & ModLoader. Do this first. Setup warns you if you skip it.
- Extract your Skate 3 disc image.
- Download the zip from the official GitHub releases, run
Setup.cmd, and pick your GTA folder anddefault.xex. - In game, wait for Skate 3 is ready, then press J.
Tips from the creator
If skating stops or acts strangely, Ctrl + J restarts the skate engine without restarting the game. A black screen after Alt+Tab is fixed by dropping DXVK’s 32-bit d3d9.dll next to gta_sa.exe.
